The Missing Road

The mapmaker had crossed out the road, not the destination.
When rain loosened the ink, a narrow route appeared between two marks: one red, one violet. Beside each was the same name.
The traveler had come looking for the first. The second lay beyond a ridge with no pass shown.
At the fork, an old sign pointed west. On its sheltered reverse were two shallow circles joined by a line.
